The real benefits of online poker by Sarah Maple

If your going to play online poker for the first time then make sure you pick a well known trusted poker website to start on. A quality resource is SkyPoker. These sites are often much easier to use and you will know that if you decide to play for money by entering your credit card details then the procedure will be safe and secure. There will be no chance of anyone dodgy looking at your bank details and you can play knowing that you will only spend the money that you have allocated for the game yourself.

Spend time clicking around the site and having a look at the different things that there are to offer. Some sites have helpful tips and videos on the rules of poker including how to bet, bluff and the different variations of the game. This is great if you are a beginner because it gives you time and tips to help you not only in your online poker playing but in real play also. Your confidence will be built up and when you eventually feel ready to play an actual game, the tips you learned through the videos will no doubt stop you feeling like a novice.

A few online poker websites also allow you to use your account to take part in other online betting games such as bingo so your not just limited to poker if you fancy trying something different every now and again. Where else but the internet would let you jump around from the poker table to the bingo room without even having to move out of the comfort of your favourite chair?

If you do decide to play for big money then you have the opportunity to win thousands of pounds however by that time you should have gained enough experience at lower levels before you compete with the big guys. Many beginners start playing online because an Internet gaming room is far less daunting that its often intimidating solid equivalent.

Online casinos offer the opportunity for those less mobile or with less money to still enjoy competitive gaming from the comfort of their own home instead of having to travel miles to a casino. You may feel silly playing for £1 in a casino but online you should have no such qualms.

Playing online frees you from having to obey any rules that are rife in casinos. Dress code, food, smoking etc... it's fine if you just want to sit in your pyjamas eating chips on a sloppy Sunday, no one would know if you were dressed in your best suit or your greyest underwear!

Just because you are playing poker at home does not mean that you can't be sociable. You can call up friends to play online with you or you can log on when you're at a friends house. Playing with friends and trying to doubly outwit your opponents can be twice as much fun as playing alone!
